Making art during a pandemicDuring this pandemic of COVID-19 we have had a lot of challenges that we need to change how we work to counteract. we can't use the dark room stopping a percentage of the work from being done, we can't go walk around the school as we are in our own year group bubbles because schools are somewhere illness can spread quickly. this has also stopped us having as much space in the classroom being separated (as much as we can) having half of a table to do all of our work. make do and mend is using what little you have around you to make something for us this is reduced space and less places to work. artists have a good method of work though as restriction/constraints allow a different kind of creativity, this could be because they don't have enough money, space to work and time to keep up with projects. for us though we can use this to our advantage as it stops a large percentage of places we can work changing what we can do so we don't get overwhelmed of what to do and where.

Marcel Duchamp's "L.H.O.O.Q" (1919)Leonardo's painting is of a lady not known but people think her name is Mona Lisa but cannot be for sure.it is famous for the expression on the woman's face compared to the background. Duchamp added facial hair a French moustache and a goatee beard making her look more masculine but he also added L.H.O.O.Q which when said in French can be heard as ‘Elle a chaud au cu’ which translates to ‘she is hot in the arse’
Ready made is using something that is already created L.H.O.O.Q is a readymade as marcel Duchamp's uses the mona Lisa to create a new photograph. It was something new and had a lot of places it can be used as this type of art was never used |
Kensuke Koike
Kensuki Koike is a visual artist who uses already made photographs and cuts them into shapes that have extremely accurate measurements making geometric shaped that he can move around making a picture look completely diffrent such as just moving eyes or changing the whole face to create 2 faces.
i tried to make some pieces based on what Kensuke Koike did but i was still new to the scalpel and could not get very accurate measurements so the pictures clearly see the background where they may be cut to small
Sharon Walters
Sharon Walters is an artist based in London she creates collages based on celebrating black woman these are all handmade her work encourages us to 'take up space' or create our own spaces. She has a series called 'Seeing ourselves' that explores under representation in many areas in particular. Each collage is carefully constructed featuring a black woman and is a celebration of natural afro hair and its beauty.
Hannah HöchIn this picture there is a range of objects and parts of a human body that makes the person looking at it question what they are looking at. There is a hair style used back when this was made and a range of parts of women from hands, face and body but there is also a lot of manufactured objects such as a wheel. The part of the picture I found the most important in my opinion is the BMW logos as they are scattered about the picture and there are lots of them this made me question why they were there and keep me thinking wanting to look at them more. This picture shows a range of people and objects creating a range of points of interest. There are several separate female body parts and lots of manufacturing parts that are almost everywhere in the collage. There are wheels, logos, light bulbs and a watch. I think the title ‘the beautiful girl’ does not fit with what the collage because it looks like it is made from offcuts of objects and women that do not mix well creating a what looks like a monster rather than a beautiful girl. However, if I could change the title, I would call it ‘greatest of the time’

Three adjectives I would use to describe the picture are:
- Mysterious
- Creative
- Dark.
Matt Lipps
Matt Lipps Part 1 from KADIST on Vimeo. |
Matt Lipps 'style' of sorts is cutting pieces of pictures out and putting them on a card back piece and then he put and card stand on the back that can not be seen from the angle the picture is taken from so a invisible stand he would put them standing in orders showing some being larger then others usually the bigger cutouts are at the back this together adds depth to a picture from a 3d person or object to a 2d picture and back into a 3d piece. this gives me a large reason to enjoy his work as i think the added depth is very much needed in photography and it can be added to any other style really

Abigail Hunt
Abigail Hunt is a female photographer/artist that makes sculptures that are 3d and takes pictures of them making them 2d. i like her work as it looks like she uses odd pieces of cut outs from magazines and flat. objects that have a texture like paper with something stuck to it. she must skilfully cut the pieces to fit the need that they were intended to be used but minor mistakes may end up improving the quality of work that it was intended for creating designs that no one thinks of. 3 words i would use to explain her work is creative, mysterious and inspirational.
Making Day #1
For this Making Day we had to create a 2D collage using the pictures we were given or ones that we chose from photo books and were photo copied so we could use the and not waste a page of the book. for my first collage i wanted to make a monochrome piece based on pictures I found I wanted to make a ranch them using animals and minor broken buildings.
this was the first idea i had to layout my work but i thought there were way to many white spaces leaving lots of room to be improved more adding more things and putting things in different places.
I think I could have changed a few things to make it better but I like the outcome of all the pictures I chose ,I mainly like the broken glass and the cow with people looking at it as to me it makes my collage look very ranch like.If i had more time i would have filled in more of the spaces with pictures that fit into a ranch theme. For my second collage I wanted a more abstract colourful image so i used a random assortment of pictures and chose what i thought to be key locations cutting them out and adding them to my collage.
these were some early ideas i had to layout my work but i decided i did not like where things were placed and had to much room to fill. I looked at some more pictures that caught my eye and decided to add them to my collage I like all of the robot like heads as they look like a heroes helmet and seems like a hero.
Prison photography
|
Klavdij Sluban went to prisons to give people that had no freedom the luxury of photography to give them some freedom. he has done this for more then 15 years. he noticed different prisons were different as they took different approaches to prisons. he let the prisoners think of photography in another way taking pictures of things that they would not normally focus on. he showed them a range of methods so when they see something that can catch in there frame they can can a photo and capture that moment in time.

making day 2
for todays making day I wanted to just have a chilled out time making some pictures so I decided to cut some pictures that caught my eye and cut them up and took pictures of them together I also cut one of the faces of a man and used some plasticine to hold it up from the table.
